History Egoli Gas (Pty) Ltd, the sole licensed piped natural gas distributor in the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan supplies natural gas to an excess of 7,500 consumers.

Our gas is a convenient, easily tapped and cost effective energy source. The gas is used in a wide range ofapplications by industrial, commercial and domestic consumers.

Business Overview:

The history of Egoli Gas echoes the history of the great city of Johannesburg.

The first "town gas" was supplied on 23 June 1892 from a site on President Street. The gas concession was taken over by the Johannesburg Lighting Co. Ltd. Later the same year, The Gas Works was relocated to Cottesloe and came into operation on 23 December 1928.

By 1992, the company Egoli Gas (Pty) Ltd, then known as Metro Gas, no longer manufactured its own gas, but purchased its entire requirement from Sasol.

Sasol feeds the inlet-stations, which in turn feeds our network grid, namely: Heriotdale, Robertsham, Langlaagte, Aeroton and Nancefield.
