Continued Gas Supply Beyond 2028 and Transition to (MRG)

Dear Valued Customer,

This letter serves as a friendly reminder, further to our correspondence dated 15 December 2025, regarding the upcoming customer information and appliance/equipment verification visits being conducted by Egoli Gas as part of our ongoing commitment to safety, reliability, and long-term network sustainability.

As previously communicated, Egoli Gas will be carrying out this verification exercise over the coming months to ensure that customer and appliance records remain accurate and complete. In addition, this process is a critical step in preparing for the planned transition to Methane-Rich Gas (MRG) in mid-2028, by confirming that appliances and equipment connected to the Egoli Gas network are suitable for operation under the future gas specification.

From January 2026, members of Egoli Gas' Sales and Operational teams will be visiting customer properties to collect and verify information relating to gas installations and connected equipment. All visits will be conducted in person, and authorised Egoli Gas personnel will present valid company identification upon arrival.

The verification exercise is expected to continue until mid-July 2026, or until all required customer information has been collected as follows:

  • Type and condition of appliances and equipment connected to the Egoli Gas network;

  • Assess compatibility of existing installations with Methane-Rich Gas (MRG);

  • Ensure accurate network-wide records to support future operational planning;

  • Identify installation characteristics and site conditions relevant to the MRG transition.

The information gathered will support Egoli Gas in planning and coordinating the continued safe and reliable operation of the network as gas specifications evolve.

To assist our inspectors during the visit, customers are kindly requested to have the following information and documentation available where possible and or applicable:

  • Customer/Owner/Tenant contact details;

  • Appliance type(s) connected to the gas supply;

  • Manufacturer, model, and serial numbers of appliances/equipment (if available);

  • Location of the gas meter and appliances/equipment;

  • Certificate of Compliance (CoC) / Certificate of Conformance;

  • Pressure test certificate.

Should the Certificate of Compliance/Conformance or pressure test certificate not be available, please inform the Egoli Gas inspector of the private gas fitter who conducted the installation or maintenance, if the information is available.

As outlined in our previous communications regarding the transition to MRG in 2028, it is essential that Egoli Gas maintains a clear and accurate understanding of appliances and equipment currently connected to its network.

To ensure that the visit is completed efficiently and with minimal disruption, we kindly request that customers:

  • Allow authorised Egoli Gas staff access to areas where gas appliances are installed;

  • Ensure that an adult is present on the premises during the visit;

  • Keep relevant documentation and contact information readily available.

Should you have any questions or require further clarification, our Customer Service Centre is available to assist you. Our field teams are trained to provide clear and consistent information during the verification process.

For confirmation of valid Egoli Gas company identification, please contact 011 356 5000.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support. We look forward to serving you safely and reliably.
